My Journey with Discipline: From Constraint to Freedom
24 Oct, 2023
·
Growing up, I thought of discipline as just following a strict timetable. My dad was a hard-working doctor. He’d leave early and come home late.
That was what discipline meant to me: doing something over and over, no matter what. But as I grew older and faced different challenges, I started to see things differently.
.
Here’s what I learned:
Breaking Down Myths:
Discipline isn’t about punishing yourself. It’s about setting habits. In my job, I learned that having good habits makes things easier. When you have a habit, you don’t need to push yourself hard to do something.
.
You're just able to just get it done quickly.
The Real Deal with Discipline:
I read a lot and realized something big: discipline isn’t a cage. It’s actually a key. It’s the thing that helps you say “no” to small distractions so you can say “yes” to bigger dreams.
Small Choices, Big Impact: It’s the little things we do every day that make a big difference over time. Taking breaks, going for a walk, or just having some quiet time to think – these things help.
Because of discipline, I’ve been able to do some pretty cool things: finish school, do well in my job, and work with people from all over the world. .
.
But it wasn’t always easy. Discipline helps me stay on track even when things get tough. I rely on my habits to kick in when progress must be made.
.
We all have days when we slip up. I’ve had my share. But the point is to keep going. Remember, discipline is more about trying to do better, not being perfect.
Looking Ahead:
I want to keep using discipline to help me, but in a way that feels more natural. I want it to be like a helpful friend, not a strict boss.
.
So, to anyone reading this: Think of discipline as your friend. It’s there to help you be the best version of yourself. It’s not about being strict. It’s about helping you reach your dreams.
Wrapping Up
When you hear the word ‘discipline’, think of it like a tool in your toolbox. It’s something you can use to build the life you want. Give it a try, and you might be surprised at what you can achieve.
